Anonymous Laker - A definite heart tugger

I will never forget the day I grew twelve feet tall. The happiest day of my life, I looked up and thought I could touch the sky. I imagined it like a ripple in the water, creating a crease in it and watching the small waves travel across, disrupting the stillness of the day.

Most of my memories of this time are foggy, mainly because I've tried to forget them. But I'll never forget that day. As soon as I woke I knew something was different. The sun was already well drifted into the sky, but it was a school day. I could smell eggs, bacon, and toast coming from the kitchen. I convinced myself it was a dream. But I forced myself onto my feet and asked Mom what time it was. "No school" she told me. I checked outside again, it wasn't a snow day, in fact it was warm.

I couldn't wrap my head around what was going on until Mom told me that we had different plans. We were going to visit dad at the hospital, I had to get dressed quickly. I've visited dad before, but I never got out of school for it. I became worried that something terrible happened.

Once we reached Dad's room, he was sitting up and smiling at me. "Dad?" I said. He laughed and greeted me by standing and giving me a hug. He was dressed in regular clothes, not the dresses the hospital gives him. I wanted ask what was going on, tell him to sit down and not hurt himself, but I didn't. I wanted to hug him for longer.

The time passed quickly, before I knew it we were at the park. Dad wasn't running, but he was up and playing with me. He was laughing and so was I. Mom had her camera out and wouldn't stop taking pictures. That's when dad picked me up and settled me on his shoulders.

That was the day I grew twelve feet tall. The happiest day of my life.
