McDonald’s Award

Katy Walls, CCHS special education teacher, is a recent recipient of the McDonald's Outstanding Educator award. Not only is Walls an astounding teacher within our district, but she even exemplifies the true meaning of being a Laker outside of school. She goes above and beyond every day to help make learning a fun experience.

Of her 22 years teaching, Ms. Walls has made an impact on other teachers in the halls of CCHS. After having taught alongside her, Mr. Smith states, “I can personally attest to the fine job she does with our students.” Furthermore, he says, “It’s no wonder she received 16 separate nominations from her peers for this award.” Ms. Walls lays the foundation of excellent teaching for upcoming educators.

Murray McDonald’s owner, Mike Love, stated how honored he was to present this award to her. He found her motivation towards students inspiring. In response to being rewarded, Walls said, "I love my job and am blessed to work for amazing administrators. There is nothing better than to wake up every day doing the career you love.” Further, Walls is appreciative of the atmosphere provided by peers and students.

This award program was built to commemorate educators who, like Walls, take pride in their job. It showcases educators who extend kindness and care towards those they teach. Overall, educators like Mrs. Walls make school a better place.
