Lakers Advance to Governor’s Cup State

The Calloway County High School Academic took Runners Up at the Region 1 KAAC Governor’s Cup competition on Saturday, February 17th, 2024. The Lakers hosted 16 schools including Ballard Memorial, Caldwell County, Carlisle County, Crittenden County, Fulton County, Graves County, Hickman County, Livingston County, Marshall County, McCracken County, Mayfield Independent, Murray, Paducah Tilghman, St. Mary, and Trigg County High Schools. McCracken County took first place with 55 total points, while the Lakers earned 2nd with 46 points. Murray High and Marshall County rounded out the top four with 9 and 6 points respectively.

 

In team events, the Lakers took first place in Future Problem Solving, earning straight 1’s from evaluators. Sidney Lasley, Brooklyn Swatzell, Aubrey Naber and Vayla Carlisle advance to the state tournament where they will compete for an invitation to International FPS competition.

 

The Laker Quick Recall team, led by captain Nathaniel Fowler and assured by Aubrey Naber, Amber Wu, Connor Pile, Ezra Foote, Kaylee Tharp, Sean Williams, Aiden Hooper, Addi Pervine, Levi Dunnaway, Tommy Gomez, and Maya Munoz earned 2nd place and will advance to the state tournament to be held Match 8-11, 2024 in Louisville, KY.

 

Individual testers in every category will also advance to the state tournament.

Arts and Humanities: 2nd place Maya Munoz, 5th place Nathaniel Fowler

Language Arts: 2nd place Aubrey Naber (ranked 10th in the state), 4th place Kaylee Tharp

Math: 1st place Amber Wu (ranked 1st in the state)

Science: 2nd place Connor Pile

Social Studies: 3rd place Ezra Foote, 4th place Nathaniel Fowler

Composition: 1st place Amber Wu, 3rd place Vayla Carlisle

The Lakers are coached by Erica Gray, Lane Springer, Cassidy McAllister, Margaret Richter, Dan Thompson, and Jayden Morris.
