Academic Team Advances to State Finals
The Calloway County High School Academic Team will advance 13 students to KAAC Governor’s Cup State after a successful Regional tournament held at McCracken and Murray High School this week. The Lakers took 2nd place overall, earning 43 total points, narrowly missing champions McCracken, who earned 44 points. Murray High took 3rd with 16 points and Paducah Tilghman rounded out the top four with 11 total points.
In team events, the Lakers took first place in Future Problem Solving, producing the championship booklet on the analysis of insect-related issues. Laken McDaniel, Drake Calhoon, Sidney Lasley and Brooklyn Swatzell will compete at state, along with Taylor Frantz and Rebecca Grosz, who will serve as alternates. In Quick Recall, the Lakers took 3rd place, led by seniors Jayden Morris, Ashleigh Caldwell, and Chaney Robinson and assisted by juniors Cesar Villeda, Ellie Whisman, Isaac Martin, Ethan Cain, and Ginni Mikulcik.
In individual events, the Lakers took several top-five places, qualifying multiple students for state competition.
