Baseball Preview

The Calloway County baseball team is preparing for their upcoming season.

The Lakers are set to return key seniors Cadwell Turner and Braden Pingel. The two recently signed their letters of intent to Rend Lake College to continue their athletic careers.

The Lakers also feature key players such as junior Kameron Starks, and sophomores Conner Lockhart, Cole Lockhart, and Cuyler McDaniel.

The Lakers finished last season with a record of 13-19 and are wanting to improve their record, as many of the key players have been preparing during the offseason.

Losing key member Matthew Ray is tough for the Lakers, but it gives other players the opportunity to step up in his absence.

Cadwell Turner led the Lakers in hitting last year with 37 hits and a batting average of .385. He hit 10 doubles and drove in 31 runs.

Outside of Ray, Conner Lockhart led the lakers pitching staff throwing 36.0 innings with a 2.92 Earned run average (ERA).

Braden Pingel led the team in stolen bases with 25 and will look to improve that number coming into the 2023 season.

Cole and Conner Lockhart were also particularly good at the plate, with Cole having 28 hits and Conner following him with 25.

Players such as Cuyler McDaniel, Bryson Dennis, Stephen Lane, Isiah Cruz, and Zach Akin will be put in bigger roles than ever before in their careers and will need to be able to perform if the Lakers want to have a successful season.

The Lakers are beginning their season with two scrimmages, on March 7th at St. Mary, and on March 10th at Caldwell County. The Lakers' first regular season game will take place March 13th at Lyon County at 5:30 PM.

The Lakers are eager to get their season underway and have elevated expectations for themselves for the upcoming season.
