Archery Team: Currently in Top 5 of State Rankings
Archery competitions consist of six scoring rounds, with the perfect score being 300. The bullseye is worth 10 points, with each ring out in descending order. The archer with the highest score is the overall winner, while the team with the highest score from their top 12 archers is the team champion.
The Calloway County Archery Team is currently in the top five of the State Rankings and has had a busy season so far.
On January 7, the Lakers hosted the first state qualifier of the season. The team took 1st place. Senior Haley Dawson placed 1st place overall high school female. Nathan Deitz, junior, took 2nd place overall high school male, and junior Matthew Jones placed 3rd overall high school male.
The Laker Archery Team shot at Graves County High School on January 21. Along with shooting bullseye target archery, the team also shot 3D animal targets.
The 3D range is set up differently than target shooting. The range goes from a turkey at 10 meters, coyote at 11 meters, bear at 12 meters, deer at 13 meters, antelope at 14 meters, and, finally, a ram at 15 meters. With this being their first experience shooting 3D, the team did amazing and scored 2nd overall. The archery team also placed well in the bullseye shoot earning a 3rd place standing.
In 3D: junior Matthew Jones placed 1st overall high school male, and Nathan Deitz, junior, placed 2nd overall male.
Saturday, January 28, the CCHS Archery Team showed out at Community Christian Academy. Shooting a team record of 3377, the Lakers swept first place with a 54-point gap from 2nd place, Graves County.
Senior Haley Dawson placed 1st overall high school female. Bella Thomas, sophomore, placed 2nd overall female. Junior Nathan Deitz placed 1st overall high school male. Matthew Jones, junior, placed 2nd overall male.
On February 11, the CCHS Archery Team shot at Murray High School, shooting both bullseye archery and 3D. The Lakers placed second in both bullseye and 3D.
In bullseye: senior Haley Dawson placed 2nd overall high school female. Audrey Tabers, sophomore, placed 4th overall high school female. Nathan Deitz, junior, placed 4th overall high school male.
In 3D; junior Bella Thomas placed 1st overall high school female. Audrey Tabers, sophomore, took 4th overall high school female. Maronda Sheridan, senior, 5th place overall high school female.
