Laker’s Hot Start
The CCHS Lakers are on a hot start, beginning the season 5-1 with their singular loss to a top team from Illinois. The Lakers are really dominating their games, with most of the final score lines showing a much closer game than it really was. The Lakers had double the number of points than Livingston Central for a good portion of the last game.
The Lakers’ star is Eli Finley, who scored the most points in a single game for the Lakers with 38 points against Hopkins County Central. Finley was a good player last season but has returned as a much better player this season. Finley says, “I have trusted God with this season and spent more time meditating in preparation for the games. My teammates have also put me in great positions to be able to succeed.”
One of his teammates who also has been stellar is senior Aidan Clinton, who is averaging a career high 15 points a game. Clinton has been a sniper from behind the arc and an above average passer this season and is leading the Lakers in three pointers made and three-point percentage with an amazing 55 percent. Clinton is the Lakers much needed replacement of Zach Hudgin.
Jonah Butler has also stepped into a new role as the Lakers big man. Butler is averaging a team-high of 8.2 rebounds a game. “Matthew was a great mentor for me, and this offseason I worked on being able to take on the role that Matthew was leaving,” Butler had said. Butler is also averaging 10 points and 3 blocks a game. The Lakers' other two starters are Cole and Conner Lockhart. Conner has also been a great shooter for the Lakers and brought some intensity to the squad on the defensive end. Cole has been a good all-around player for the Lakers in his first chances on varsity. Steven Lane and Kolt Bazzell have also been good in their roles off the bench.
The Lakers have worked hard this offseason, and now they are showing the region what they can truly do.
