CCHS Girls Basketball
The Lady Lakers basketball team has gotten off to a 1-5 start. The Lady Lakers have also had a tough start to the year going up against Livingston Central, Webster County, Taylor County, McCracken County, Muhlenberg, and Greenwood.
The team is led by Carson McReynolds, Addi Schumacher, Sayler Lowe, Jaycee Crouch, Jaiden Koch, Lexi McClure, and Olivia Perkins. Although the Lady Lakers have only picked up one win thus far, they have been competitive. They lost a tough game to Livingston Central 36-27, and if things bounced the Laker’s way just a bit better, they could find themselves at 2-2.
The McCracken County team they played against is one of the top teams in the state. Although the score looked rough, the Lady Lakers stayed in the game and fought till the end.
The Lady Lakers have had a tough time keeping key players healthy for the start of the season. Jaycee Crouch was injured against Livingston, when she was hit in the head by an opposing player setting a screen. Crouch is one of the Lady Lakers' best ball handlers - - it has been tough for the team to adapt in her absence.
Olivia Perkins missed the McCracken game due to sickness. Not having one of their key players hurt the Lakers’ depth. Once the Lady Lakers squad gets back to full health, they should be able to compete within the region.
Sayler Lowe, a standout on the team (and one of the top players in the region) started the year averaging 16.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Addi Schumacher is second on the team in scoring with 9.2 points per game. Carson McReynolds has also been a key contributor to this team with averages of 4.2 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. The Lakers are also receiving 7.8 points from Jaiden Koch.
As the Lady Lakers work their way back to full health, it will be fun to watch the team improve as this year goes on.
