Basketball Homecoming
On February 4, Addi Schumacher was crowned homecoming queen by student majority vote. Schumacher is a member of the girls' basketball team, and she was escorted by a member of the boys' basketball team, Aidan Clinton.
Every year at Calloway, the high school hosts two homecomings, one for football and one for basketball. Shumacher was not voted to be on the football homecoming court, so she did not expect to be on the basketball court; she was quite shocked to see that she made the court; thus, being nominated queen was even more surprising to the senior guard.
Shumacher was very shocked to hear her name called out as homecoming queen, and the tears she shed as a reaction proved this. Schumacher stated that she felt, “honored and surprised” to hear her name called out as homecoming queen.
To anyone, being awarded homecoming queen is quite a feat, but to someone who did not even expect to make the court, the honor is even more meaningful. Schumacher stated that since she was not nominated to be on the football homecoming court, she “did not even expect to be on the court.”
When asked what it meant to her to be homecoming queen, Shumacher replied, "It means a lot to me that the student body thinks that highly of me.’’
