Track Team: Breaking Records and Finding Success

The track team recently traveled to Louisville for a meet and competed very well, putting up substantial numbers as a group.

Many school records were set including the 2-mile run by Daniel Puckett, 800-meter run and 1 mile run by Landon McCartney, 4x400 meter relay by Tate Weatherly, Quavo Harris, Dominic Cashion, and Cohen Mccartney.

Many of the girls' records were broken as well. Reese Settle set a record for 1-mile and 800-meter run. Olivia Miles broke the 400-meter dash record, while Olivia Anderson broke a record in the 60-meter hurdles. The triple jump record was broken by Emma Martin.  Additionally, Sayde Lowe took over the pole vault record, while the 4x400 meter relay record was broken by Brooklyn Smith, Olivia Anderson, Rese Settle, and Olivia Miles.

Some seniors on the team include Sam Chapman, John Durham, Cohen McCartney, Landon McCartney, Hunter Winebarger, Daniel Puckett, Dominic Cashion, Maronda Sheridan, Olivia Lane, Sydney Nabor, Eowyn Gessler. These seniors are great leaders for the undergraduates and continue to lead the team to satisfactory results.

Coaches of the Lakers track team are Mike Wicker, Chris Champion, Jonathan Grooms, Thomas Mix.

When Sam Chapman was asked about his expectations for senior year he said, “I want to try to compete for a state championship. We have been working very hard and hope to have a very successful season as a team.”

Looks like the team is set to fulfill those expectations.
