Softball Preview

The Calloway County softball team is preparing for the 2023 season. The team is led by coach Kady Arant, who also served as the Lady Lakers volleyball coach this season and features seniors Carson McReynolds, Emerson Grogan, Mattie Overby, juniors Preslee Phillips, Reese Settle, and sophomore Bailee Grogan.

McReynolds recently signed her letter of intent to attend Dyersburg State Community College.

The team is missing 2022 graduate Izzy Housden, as she led on the pitcher’s mound and was also a key member of the lineup.

Preslee Phillips led in hitting last year with 37 hits, 5 home runs, 4 triples, 6 doubles and 17 runs batted in. Phillips also led in stolen bases, with 29 of 29 successful stolen base attempts.

Carson McReynolds was also a big part of the Lady Lakers offensive success, as she had 33 hits, 4 home runs, 3 triples, 7 doubles and 15 runs batted in.

Emerson Grogan is set to be the Lady Lakers main pitcher this year. Grogan threw 26.1 innings last year with an earned run average of 5.32. She will be moving to a bigger role this year, looking to improve on her 2022 numbers.

Bailee Grogan and Reese Settle had good seasons last year with Grogan having 24 hits and Settle adding 21 of her own.

Last year the Lady Lakers won the 2A softball sectional championship. They are looking to repeat as section champions and make a run at the 2A state championship.

The team also won the 4th district for the second year in a row as they defeated Marshall County 1-0 in the district championship.

The Lady Lakers hope to win the district for a third straight year and are looking to compete for a regional championship.
